ANNUAL AWARDS 2009

This year’s ANNUAL AWARD went to the new Weymouth Bay Methodist Church in Melcombe Avenue. It replaces the 19th century church in Maiden Street which was largely destroyed in a devastating fire several years ago. The Minister, Reverend David Plumb, commented that it was a privilege to win the award which recognises the craftsmanship of the building not only in its looks but in its usage. ‘When you have a lot of problems you appreciate awards like this all the more. It is a great privilege and an honour.’

A SPECIAL AWARD went to the new bridge over Newton’s Road and was received on behalf of Dorset County Council by John Burridge of Dorset engineering consultancy. He later wrote:’ The receipt of the award has been a great boost to our morale. It is a fitting way for the team effort that went into the project to be recognised and really topped off what was a successful project all round. To gain such support and enthusiasm from local people for one of our projects is particularly satisfying.’.
