A Message from our Membership Secretary
Two reminders for members:
First up is an early notice of the next meeting which will take place at 7.30 p.m.next Monday, 18 June at the Old Town Hall, High ST West, entrance opposite the Boot Inn. The speaker will be Portland Port CEO Bill Reeves who will be talking about Portland Port: the future. Portland Port is one of the possible growth points on which the prosperity of the Borough depends. This talk should give us some insights into the potential of the Port. Light refreshments will be available. As usual, we ask members to make a contribution of £2 to cover the expenses of the meeting.
Secondly, another reminder about Civic Day on Saturday. (Relatively) new member Valerie White has prepared a comprehensive introduction to Sir James Thornhill, one of Weymouth's most eminent but least known sons. Valerie will be at St Mary's Church between 11.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. with a wide range of material showing some of the incredible works Thornhill created. I will be outside the White Hart,in Bond Street, near Debenhams, another site associated with Thornhill with a more limited display to draw attention to the St Mary's exhibition. We hope to see a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. Anybody who has an hour to spare, particularly to help setting up or packing up the exhibitions before 11 o'clock or at the end of the afternoon will be particularly welcome. Contact by replying to this email or ringing 812546.
